about

Losing you details the harsh reality of some relationships, paired with the beauty that comes from moving through adversity, learning to forgive and move on. It details the struggles one may face in the process of reconciliation, and the struggles one may face in navigating a relationship shrouded in secrecy…. The chorus - “Am I losing You” is a cry for help, for honesty in a time when It is needed most when ones choices are hinged on another’s actions. The song hints at what it may be like to lose the facade of lies and detrimental assumptions partners so easily hold on to and speak truthfully and powerfully to one another without prejudice, “lay our secrets on the table, without guessing what will arrive”, envisioning an honest and beautiful relationship on the other side of things….. The song parts with a monologue that draws attention to those few who have attempted to find and ask for forgiveness from someone and have been humiliated in the process, It is an attempt to highlight the beauty that acceptance can provide for one-another, or how the lack of it can deter attempts to better oneself.

“The song was birthed back in January 2020 - a collaboration between three friends, me, and two electronic music producers; Cole Solomons and my Identical Twin - Samuel Cosentino-Hunter. The initial Idea was to simply have fun and to see what we came up with in the studio…. Using two phone microphones and a single condenser, we created a percussive landscape, solely using sounds we made on the acoustic guitar, the chords played laid the harmonic foundations for the song, and the electronic kick detailed the rhythm in which the song would swing on. There was no initial theme just raw playfulness. After that studio day we practically forgot about the song…. Haha, typical. Fast forward nearly two years later (November 2021), Samuel plays the song to me, and I am blown away by how rhythmically enticing and beautiful it sounds, and yet how stripped back it was…. We instantly called Cole, arranged another studio day and set out to finish it, now with a loose theme of forgiveness (probably influenced by the relationship I was having at the time…. haha, it’s funny how I only sometimes realise the perspective I am writing from after the song has been written. I worked on the lyrics on and off for the next four months, and invited my mate who played bass – Tauna Woolfe to help lay down some bass lines. The bridge section is a total contrast to the rest of the song, I think at the time I wanted to highlight how I felt about doubt, we all know the phrase “doubt is the devil”, to me it’s the dream killer, and one of the few ways that helps me push through it is getting some decent advice from good people…. Mainly, it is keeping my focus on what I want, and making sure to action in that direction, easier said than done. So to me the bridge represented what doubt can do in a relationship, it can make the situation feel like the worlds falling apart, when in reality, one or both sides are struggling to communicate there feelings to one another, and that tension encompasses you…..”

lyrics

Questioned you, I'm ripped in two...
Have I Got enough time to be this way? Got enough time to be this way,
Apologised, with words disguised
As fists of fuck you, I love you, I hate you some, but not enough to cure my numb.
Oh I'm in pain, but won't express it.
Have you pierced my skin with what you said? Cause the truth is I'm not happy with what I did.
But now I'm grazed and stubborn, and the world means less than it did. But a trickle in my eye told me some things are best forgiven.
(Am i) losing you, I'm losing you, i feel like I'm losing you. I feel like I'm losing you. (Am i) losing you, I'm losing you, i feel like I'm losing you. I feel like I’m losing you.
When the stitch was broken, I burned but felt alive.
Can't we lay our secrets on the table without guessing what will arrive? Trust the process of releasing, inviting truth inside.
I speak to you, you speak to me, these words they speak together.
The birds and bees are talking, they said doubt would suck me dry. Of all the sugar in my veins, and the question that is why?
Why is fear the shovel and love the buried ashes?
I left my heart wide open in a place that screams and lashes.
(Am i) losing you, I'm losing you, i feel like I'm losing you. I feel like I'm losing you. (Am i) losing you, I'm losing you, i feel like I'm losing you. I feel like I'm losing You
The person, left unforgiven, sought their journey to the light, but once there, was greeted with closed arms, then, stuck for matter of choice, tried again, but was only caressed by rejection, now, it was back down the pale black staircase.
